Exchanging a barn for a peaceful respite.

The Texas Ranch House is located about 60 miles southwest of Houston. The home is a modest and informal space with twenty percent of the building footprint designated as outdoor porch space. Half of this space is screened in to take advantage of the views of the bayou and landscape. The owner requested that the new ranch house use as much salvaged wood from a nearby dilapidated barn as possible. The challenge of this project was how and where to incorporate the wood in a harmonious and subtle way. The design was able to incorporate 100% of the demolished barn to include additional reclaimed wood from a salvage yard on the interior siding and floor as well as all of the outdoor porch.
